Yoga Retreat - 14th - 16th July 2017

About the Retreat to Gayles

The environment and ambience at Gayles encourages an open, safe, relaxed and intimate atmosphere that promotes learning and self-development, situated in outstanding countryside on the South Downs in the South East of England.

With its open fire, high ceiling and refreshing artworks, The Stables, a beautifully converted 1930s stable and adjoining property, provides a warm and practical area for eating, chatting, relaxing and, if you choose, cooking. The ground level has an open-plan, well equipped, kitchen and dining room with under-floor heating. There is a separates stereo system with a CD player, DAB radio and amplifier (with an iPod connection cable) which you may wish to use as teaching aids or to enhance your own ambience. Immediately outside there is a large, decked, seated eating area which is ideal for informal meals and gatherings in more clement weather.

The Retreat

Practice Area

Set a little away from the other buildings, in the corner of a meadow and edged by a hedgerow, The Old Cowshed is a wonderful, light studio space purposefully restored to make it ideal for lessons and practice. It has a singular ambience; a sense of calm and quiet beauty that encourages study, self-development and contemplation.

Dining and Social

You can expect homely, nourishing and delicious food with varied, seasonal menus and the best ingredients that they can practically provide.

Gayles values simplicity and generosity and, in short, we prepare and serve the food with respect and care using the best ingredients that they can and keeping as much as possible homemade. Alongside the recipes that have proved to be popular with people they often try out (carefully tested) new ones and are always on the look out for fresh ideas and approaches to bring to the table.

They use as many ingredients as possible from the lovingly tended, organic gardens and when they shop we try to do so responsibly; sourcing locally from smaller traders, buying organic goods where we can and avoiding processed or additive heavy products, as well as ones that are ethically or environmentally suspect or have been flown across the world to our shelves.

What's included

Meals

All the food is vegetarian and they can always offer alternatives to dairy and wheat products. They are happy to cater for you if you are vegan, dairy or gluten-free.

We provide three meals a day; lunch and the evening meal have two courses and breakfast offers several choices (such as porridge, homemade granola and compote, bread/toast, hard-boiled eggs and so on).

Usually one of the two main meals, (lunch or the evening meal) is more substantial, the other will be lighter with fruit provided for dessert.

A variety of teas (and coffee) are always available, as is fresh fruit. Herbal teas and honey are also on hand in the dormitories.

Rooms

The accommodation is mainly in dormitories and students eat communally, there is a wonderful natural opportunity for bringing your group together; for people to bond and discover new qualities in each other and so make the whole experience that much deeper and more rewarding.
